Kilgore College and Stephen F. Austin State University (SFA) will strengthen their partnership and expand educational opportunities for East Texas students by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to establish a new co-admission pathway between the two institutions.
A press conference and MOU signing ceremony will take place at 3 p.m., Thursday, May 15, on the second floor of the McLaurin Administration Building, located at 805 Ross Ave. on the Kilgore campus. All media members are invited to attend.
The agreementโknown as the Lumberjack Transfer Allianceโwill allow eligible KC students to co-enroll at SFA while completing their associateโs degree. Students will primarily take classes at KC during their first two years and participate in advising, recruitment events and other university activities.
โThis co-admission agreement will create a smoother, more intentional transfer experience for Kilgore College students planning to complete their bachelor’s degrees at SFA,โ said Dr. Tracy Skopek, KCโs Vice President of Student Learning, Engagement & Student Success. โIt ensures students stay on track with the right courses, the right support, and a clear pathway toward on-time graduation.โ
Through the Lumberjack Transfer Alliance, KC students will benefit from:
- Co-advising and coordinated degree planning with SFA
- Invitations to SFA recruitment and engagement events while attending KC
- A one-time $500 transfer stipend for eligible students
- Automatic admission to SFA upon completion of an Associate of Arts or Associate of Science degree at KC
- Eligibility for SFA transfer scholarships
“We are proud to partner with Kilgore College to enhance student success and regional access to higher education,” said Dr. Neal Weaver, president of Stephen F. Austin State University. “We want Kilgore College students to be aware that they have a clear and supportive pathway to a four-year degree, along with all the opportunities that come with being part of the SFA community.”
This MOU reflects both institutionsโ shared commitment to reducing barriers, aligning academic programs and preparing students for meaningful careers and lifelong learning.
