KC to host regional Student Government Association meet Friday

Kilgore College will host a regional Student Government Association (SGA) meeting Friday in the Devall Ballroom from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., welcoming approximately 120 student leaders from community colleges across Northeast Texas.

The event marks the first time in several years that KC has hosted a regional SGA meet, bringing together students from multiple campuses to collaborate, develop leadership skills and strengthen the collective student voice.

โ€œThis is a big moment for our college and for our students,โ€ said Destiny Foster, SGA adviser at Kilgore College. โ€œHosting a regional meeting allows our campus to be a hub for leadership development while giving students the opportunity to learn from one another and build connections beyond their own institutions.โ€

SGA regional meetings are designed to create space for student leaders to discuss shared challenges and opportunities affecting campuses across the region. Through workshops, keynote presentations and group discussions, students focus on leadership development, advocacy, governance and professional skills.

โ€œThese meetings help students understand that their voices matter not just on their own campuses, but across the region,โ€ Foster said. โ€œWhen students come together, they gain confidence in representing their peers and advocating for meaningful change.โ€

Workshops and sessions will center on student leadership skills, advocacy and representation, professional development, communication and teamwork within student government.

Participating colleges will include Northeast Texas Community College, Tyler Junior College, Trinity Valley Community Collegeโ€™s Athens and Terrell chapters, Angelina College, Panola College, Texarkana College, Paris Junior College, Navarro Collegeโ€™s Midlothian and Corsicana chapters, and other regional institutions.

โ€œWeโ€™re excited to welcome students from so many colleges to Kilgore,โ€ Foster said. โ€œEvents like this help build future leaders and show the power of collaboration in higher education.โ€

The regional SGA meet is open to participating student government organizations and invited guests.
