Pell Grant Deadlines for the 2026–2027 Award Year

Pell Grant Processing & Federal Compliance

To ensure compliance with federal regulations and to avoid delays in processing Federal Pell Grant funds, the Financial Aid Office will begin enforcing strict deadlines for the submission of required documentation each term.

Under 34 CFR 690.83(a), institutions must submit all Pell Grant payment data to the U.S. Department of Education’s Common Origination and Disbursement (COD) System by the final processing deadline for the award year.

2026-2027 Award Year Deadline

All Pell Grant funds must be awarded and disbursed by July 23, 2027, to allow for full reconciliation and closeout by the federally mandated deadline of Sept. 15, 2027.

To Be Eligible for Pell Grant Disbursement, Students Must Complete the Following Prior to the Posted Deadline for Each Term:

  • Submission of a valid FAFSA and receipt of an Institutional Student Information Record (ISIR).
  • Completion of Verification (if selected), including all required documentation through Inceptia or other designated platforms.
  • Submission of complete and correct documentation for any Suspension Appeals or other eligibility-related reviews.
Failure to meet these deadlines will result in ineligibility for retroactive Pell Grant disbursement. Federal regulations do not permit institutions to disburse Pell Grant funds after the award year has closed, even if the student was otherwise eligible during the term.

Federal Requirements

  • Schools must reconcile Pell Grant disbursements with COD and G5 systems to a zero balance by the closeout deadline.
  • Verification must be completed before any subsidized Title IV aid, including Pell Grants, can be disbursed.
  • Institutions must maintain documented procedures for reconciliation and verification, and ensure timely submission of all required data.

Exceptions

If a delay in processing is due to an error or oversight by the Financial Aid Office, exceptions may be granted on a case-by-case basis.
