Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society (PTK) announced this week that the Kilgore College chapter, Gamma Omicron, has achieved Five-Star Chapter status.
The PTK Five-Star Chapter status requires five levels of engagement with each level consisting of prescribed activities to build a strong, active chapter.
PTK was also presented with an Award of Merit for the planning and creation of the Trunk-or-Treat event held on campus in the fall.
In addition to these chapter accolades, two of its members were inducted into the District 3 Hall of Honors: Gabby Rivera, PTK president for the 2023-2024 academic year; and Yoselin Delapaz, PTK secretary.
“Gabby has exhibited exemplary leadership skills, steering our chapter through a pivotal transitional period with unwavering dedication,” said Kate Yglesias, PTK faculty sponsor. “Despite facing challenges such as integrating new advisors, Gabby’s commitment ensured the fulfillment of all objectives, maintaining our Five-Star Chapter status. Her leadership extended to organizing successful events like the Trunk-or-Treat, which has become a staple community outreach event for Kilgore College.”
Yglesias said that Delapaz has shown remarkable dedication to the recruitment of new members and promoting the values of the PTK organization on campus.
“Her active participation in recruitment events and ability to foster an inclusive environment have been instrumental in expanding our chapter’s reach,” Yglesias said. “Yoselin’s compassion and empathy were evident during our chapter’s Christmas carol event at a local assisted living facility where she forged meaningful connections with the residents.”
