





Band (MUEN 2121) is predominantly a marching band in the fall semester. The band is open to all student instrumentalists regardless of their major field of study. Organized in 1936, the Ranger Band is one of the most celebrated college bands in the nation, playing to standing ovations in Venezuela, France, Hong Kong, Macao, Korea and Romania, as well as the Cotton Bowl, Sugar Bowl, Shrine East-West Game, Kiwanis Bowl (Norfolk) and American All-Star Game (Tampa, Fla.).
The 100-member marching band has also appeared in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade (six years), the Little Rose Bowl (Pasadena), the Eisenhower inaugural and others. The 20-member Stage Band has performed at many national association conventions.
Kilgore College Band alumni are invited to join the KC Band Heritage for a special halftime performance during the college’s homecoming game on Saturday, Nov. 8, 2025, at R.E. Saint John Memorial Stadium.

Rehearsals are scheduled for Nov. 4, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the KC Band Hall.
On game day, alumni participants will meet for lunch at 11 a.m. in the Band Hall, followed by rehearsal at noon, a pre-game performance at 12:30 p.m., and the homecoming game kickoff at 1 p.m. A reception will follow at 5 p.m. on the KC campus.
Instruments may be provided as available, and sheet music can be sent in advance of rehearsals. Alumni Band T-shirts will also be provided to participants.

Kilgore College will host the KC Invitational Wind Symphony on Feb. 27–28, 2026.
The event invites talented high school band students in grades 9–12 to rehearse and perform alongside the Kilgore College Wind Symphony. Directed by Derrick Logozzo, the two-day event offers students a college-level performance experience while connecting with other young musicians from across the region.
High school band directors are encouraged to select students who can attend all rehearsals and the concert. Interested students may also contact the host directly.
Participants will receive their music and audio links in advance to prepare for rehearsals. Students may select which pieces they perform, and solo opportunities will also be available.
The Devall Ballroom is in the Devall Student Center, located at 1116 Broadway Blvd., in Kilgore.
Repertoire highlights will include works by Copland, Strauss, Mackey, Sousa and more.
Participants will receive a KC IWS emblem patch, and lunch will be provided on Saturday.
Directors should submit student names and instruments by Feb. 20, 2026.

The festival will feature performances by high school jazz ensembles as well as the Invitational Jazz Ensemble, a select group of high school musicians who will perform alongside the Kilgore College Big Band Jazz Ensemble under the direction of Derrick Logozzo.

Scholarships and Competitive Waivers (in-district tuition) are available to music majors and non-majors. Auditions are available for band scholarships.Â
For wind instruments, students will be asked to demonstrate playing scales in various octaves. Students auditioning should prepare an etude from a Solo & Ensemble List (preferred is any year of the high school Region audition etudes). For percussionists, please select two (snare drum, timpani, mallets or drum set) to demonstrate abilities.

The Kilgore College Wind Symphony (MUEN 2122) meets in Spring semesters each year performing a wide variety of symphonic and popular music literature for the concert band. They present two major performances during the semester and provide a musical outlet for those who enjoy performing on the concert stage.
Jazz Ensemble (MUEN 2125)Â is a select ensemble of standard jazz band instrumentation. Jazz Ensemble repertoire is inclusive of all 20th Century jazz, rock and blues. Students are allowed solo and improvisatory opportunities. The Jazz Ensemble performs several concerts and guest performances across the East Texas area.
KC Steel is select ensemble performing on steel drums. The ensemble performs concerts and guest performances across the East Texas area.
