Eight Kilgore College students were selected for the Texas Two-Year College All-State Choir following auditions held in November, with every KC student who auditioned earning a place in the prestigious ensemble.
The students were among top vocalists from community and junior colleges across the state. Over a 12-week preparation period, participants learned eight pieces of music, including three performed in foreign languages.
Tryouts are hosted annually by the Texas Two-Year College Choral Directors Association (TCCDA).
“This is an extraordinary accomplishment and a testament to the discipline, musicianship and perseverance these students bring to the rehearsal room every day,” said Peter Cunningham, KC choral director. “Their success reflects not only their individual talent, but also their commitment to representing Kilgore College with excellence.”
Students selected for the All-State Choir will travel to San Antonio in February to participate in the Texas Music Educators Association convention, where they will take part in a clinic led by world-renowned musicians and conductors.
The KC students selected are:
- Joely Hernandez: sophomore from Longview, social work major
- Lauryn Odoms: sophomore from White Oak, music major
- Jaleesa Dotson: freshman from Longview, nursing major
- Charae Sands: sophomore from Marshall, music major
- Hyensy Sifuentes: sophomore from Grand Prairie, music major
- Victor Roque: freshman from Longview, music major
- Joshua Guerra: freshman from San Antonio, music major
- Kenneth Anderson: freshman from Hallsville, law enforcement and emergency management major
