Helping Families Understand House Bill 8, Tuition Charges, and Billing Timelines
Due to requirements established by Texas House Bill 8 (HB 8), Kilgore College cannot finalize dual credit tuition charges until official student eligibility information is received from the State of Texas. As a result, final balances will not be available until much later in the semester. This process ensures that all eligible students receive any tuition assistance before charges are finalized. Please check this website for status updates.Â

HB 8 changed the way dual credit tuition is funded in Texas. Some students attending public and charter schools may qualify for state-funded tuition assistance. The State of Texas determines eligibility and provides colleges with official data after the semester begins.
Note: HB 8 does not apply to homeschool and private school students.
Students who qualify for HB 8 funding may have their tuition covered through state funding. Students who do not qualify will be charged the approved Kilgore College dual credit tuition rate.  See below for information for 2026-2027. Please note this is a rate per credit hour. Most college classes are three or four credit hours.Â
