KC Adult Education student leaves Mexico to pursue dreams, earns Certified Nurse Aide certificate

Karla Bibiana Perez Antonio desired a better life, so in 2013 she took initiative and left her home in Mexico to move to the United States to turn her dreams into reality.

Fast-forward seven years and those dreams have become reality thanks to her determination and hard work in the Kilgore College Adult Education Program.

After passing the Texas Certificate of High School Equivalency exam in February, Karla earned her second state credential as a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) this month.

Kil-GORE Horror Movie Festival set for Oct. 26-31 in Dodson Auditorium

Kilgore College looks to put a bit of a scare into visitors as it will host the second annual “Kil-GORE Horror Movie Festival” Oct. 26-31 in Dodson Auditorium on the Kilgore campus.

A movie will be shown each day of the festival at 7:30 p.m. with a matinee set for 2 p.m. on Saturday.

KC one of eight East Texas community colleges to receive grant to help scale Texas Pathways model

Kilgore College is one of eight East Texas community colleges that received funding from a $960,000 grant from the Texas Success Center to help with scaling essential practices of the Texas Pathways model.

The Texas Success Center, a division of the Texas Association of Community Colleges (TACC), received the grant from the T.L.L. Temple Foundation.

For KC’s portion, it received an award of $126,472 to employ a success coach dedicated to working with workforce dual credit students at Longview and Henderson high schools.

East Texas Police Academy at KC graduates 19 new cadets; Enrollment open for academy beginning in January

The East Texas Police Academy at Kilgore College recently graduated the 324th Basic Peace Officer Course (BPOC) with 19 cadets graduating as the first class to complete the new BPOC training curriculum as mandated by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE).

As a part of the curriculum, the TCOLE also introduced a new licensing exam required to be passed by all graduates before their appointment as a law enforcement officer in Texas.

On the initial licensure exam, KC’s East Texas Police Academy achieved a 100 percent first-attempt pass rate.

East Texas Oil Museum at KC will present exhibit on MLK, Civil Rights Movement Oct. 31 to Dec. 12

The East Texas Oil Museum at Kilgore College will present “The Road to the Promised Land: Martin Luther King Jr. and the Civil Rights Movement,” an exhibition by Humanities Texas, the state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities.

The traveling exhibit will be on display from Oct. 31 through Dec. 12 at the ETOM.

Free safety courses offered through December by KC Risk Management Institute

The Risk Management Institute at Kilgore College will provide several free safety classes through December that will help train and educate local employers, employees and the general public about proper workplace safety practices.

Classes will be held in Kilgore in the Student Support Building (Room 208) on the Kilgore campus unless noted otherwise.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, classes are limited and social distancing and state health mandates will be followed.

KC student named as one of 25 PTK students to be published in national journal

Kilgore College student DeLancey Torres is among 25 Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Honor Society members who will have their writing published in the 2020 issue of PTK’s online literary journal, Nota Bene.

Torres, a nursing major from Tyler, was one of 370 PTK students who submitted writings for the 2020 competition.

The competition is judged by current and retired college faculty and staff from across the country, showcasing the outstanding writing of PTK members.

The digital issue will be available on www.ptk.org this winter.

KC Esports defeats top four-year universities to earn spot in national 24-team tournament

One of the Kilgore College Esports teams last night defeated top-ranked four-year universities in the Fall Duos Tournament to qualify as one of the top 24 collegiate video-gaming teams in the country.

The 24 top teams – with KC among them – will compete at the 2020 Call of Duty Collegiate Series: Fall Duos Invitational Tournament Oct. 14-16. 

FedEx drop-off services now offered at KC Bookstore

FedEx drop-off services are now offered to the general public at the Kilgore College Bookstore on the Kilgore campus.

As part of the FedEx onsite program, customers can drop off pre-packaged and pre-labeled FedEx Express or FedEx Ground shipments.

Items can also be brought in without labels for shipping.

The bookstore, located in the Devall Student Center, offers a wide variety of apparel, electronics and merchandise.
