Kilgore College’s Public Services Division offers Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) training designed for students preparing for careers in emergency response, fire service and pre-hospital patient care. The eight-week onsite EMT course, held Monday, Wednesday and Friday, provides the medical training required for students pursuing fire service careers, including those enrolled in the KC Basic Fire Academy.
The fire academy itself does not include the required medical certification, making the EMT course an important next step for students entering the profession. Through classroom instruction, hands-on lab training and clinical experience, students learn essential lifesaving skills such as patient assessment, CPR, airway management, trauma care, emergency response and basic medical treatment. The course prepares students for entry-level positions in emergency medical services and helps qualify them for state and national certification testing, opening the door to careers in EMS, firefighting and other public safety fields.
