The Kilgore College Support Services and Retention team will host its annual Community Resource Fair from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 26, at the Lee Mall/Mike Miller Plaza on the Kilgore campus.
The fair will feature dozens of local vendors, community partners and KC departments sharing information about essential services, resources and opportunities available to students, faculty and staff.
โThis event is all about connecting our campus community with the resources they need to be successful in and out of the classroom,โ said Tracy Fletcher, KC benefits navigator. โWe want students to know support is available, whether itโs healthcare, housing, financial guidance or academic tutoring.โ
Highlights of the fair include free on-site eye exams from the Lions Club, mobile health screenings and STI testing provided by Special Health Resources (with Walmart gift cards for the first 20 students served), and information on free or low-cost health insurance from Wellness Point. PNC Banking will also provide budgeting and financial literacy tips, and the Kilgore Fuller Center for Housing will be available to discuss housing assistance programs.
KC students will have the chance to connect with campus support services such as Social Services, Disability Services, Counseling, the Educational Opportunity Center (EOC), TRIO, the library, the KC Writing Studio and The Zone tutoring center.
Free food will be available, including burgers from the Texas Credit Union food truck, hot dogs from the Baptist Student Ministry, snow cones from Charlieโs Snowballs and complimentary KC swag from the Ranger Roadshow.
Entertainment and activities will include a DJ, sumo bubble suits, tug-of-war, raffles and more.
Raffle prizes for KC students include a gift basket featuring a limited-edition KC Stanley Cup, snacks and dorm essentials, along with 100 Chick-fil-A gift cards for attendees.
Mascots Rowdy and Drillbit will make a special appearance from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and guests from Christus Therapy Pets will also be on site.
โWe hope this will be both fun and meaningful for students,โ Fletcher said. โThe resource fair is a chance to celebrate our KC community while making sure everyone knows about the tools and support systems here to help them thrive.โ
