Kilgore College recently hosted a regional Student Government Association (SGA) meeting in the Devall Ballroom, welcoming approximately 120 student leaders from community colleges across Northeast Texas.
The event marked the first time in several years that KC had hosted a regional SGA meet, bringing together students from multiple campuses to collaborate, develop leadership skills and strengthen the collective student voice.
“This was a big moment for our college and for our students,” said Destiny Foster, SGA adviser at Kilgore College. “Hosting a regional meeting allowed our campus to serve as a hub for leadership development while giving students the opportunity to learn from one another and build connections beyond their own institutions.”
SGA regional meetings are designed to create space for student leaders to discuss shared challenges and opportunities affecting campuses across the region. Through workshops, keynote presentations and group discussions, students focused on leadership development, advocacy, governance and professional skills.
“These meetings helped students understand that their voices matter not just on their own campuses, but across the region,” Foster said. “When students come together, they gain confidence in representing their peers and advocating for meaningful change.”
Workshops and sessions centered on student leadership skills, advocacy and representation, professional development, communication and teamwork within student government.
Participating colleges included Northeast Texas Community College, Tyler Junior College, Trinity Valley Community College’s Athens and Terrell chapters, Angelina College, Panola College, Texarkana College, Paris Junior College and Navarro College’s Midlothian and Corsicana chapters, along with other regional institutions.
“We were excited to welcome students from so many colleges to Kilgore,” Foster said. “Events like this help build future leaders and show the power of collaboration in higher education.”
