KC Phi Theta Kappa chapter maintains five-star status, officers and advisors honored

Kilgore College’s Gamma Omicron Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) has once again earned the prestigious Five-Star Chapter status, the highest level of recognition awarded by the international honor society for two-year colleges.

Five-Star status reflects exceptional achievement in leadership, scholarship, fellowship and service. This distinction underscores the dedication and hard work of the chapter’s officers and advisors in fulfilling the rigorous requirements of PTK’s Five-Star Chapter Plan.

As part of this achievement, several Gamma Omicron officers and advisors were inducted into the Phi Theta Kappa District 3 Hall of Honors in recognition of their outstanding leadership and service:

  • Anna Phillips: Chapter President
  • Cortney Gorham: Vice President of Leadership 2
  • Jayci Pyle: Vice President of Scholarship
  • Kenia Velasquez: Vice President of Service
  • Alex Nabor: Dual Credit Officer
  • Ruddy Morales: Recording Officer 1
  • Shiva Heidari: Publicity Chair
  • Curtis Ivory: Professor of Biology and Chapter Advisor
  • Lori Solley: Professor of Fine Art and Chapter Advisor

A key component of the chapter’s success was the completion of an impactful Honors in Action (HIA) project under the theme Fables, Folklore and Fairytales.

This project was central to maintaining Five-Star status and earned the chapter a $1,000 grant from the Mellon Foundation to support its implementation and outreach efforts.

Phi Theta Kappa is the international honor society for two-year colleges, recognizing academic achievement and fostering leadership, service, scholarship and fellowship.

With over two million members across 1,200 chapters worldwide, PTK inducts more than 85,000 students annually. Membership is open to students who have completed at least 12 semester credit hours and maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher.

Faculty sponsors of the Gamma Omicron Chapter at KC are Curtis Ivory and Lori Solley.
