Kilgore College has named Kara Sharman as vice president of operations, effective April 1. She will lead the college’s newly formed Operations Division.
In her new role, Sharman will provide executive leadership with oversight of human resources, auxiliary enterprises, facilities, and communications and public relations.
Sharman has served as KC’s director of human resources since July 2022 and has been a member of the college’s Strategic Leadership Team. In that role, she has provided institution-wide leadership in workforce strategy, compliance and organizational development, while supporting strategic initiatives and operational priorities.
“I am confident Kara will lead this new division with the same dedication and competence she has demonstrated in her leadership of human resources,” said Dr. Staci Martin, interim president of KC. “Her deep understanding of the institution and her commitment to operational excellence will be instrumental as we continue strengthening college-wide services and support.”
Prior to joining KC, Sharman served as human resources manager for East Texas Lighthouse for the Blind and Pine Cove Christian Camps. She also gained early career experience as a marketing intern in Tyler and a production intern at KETK-NBC.
Sharman holds a Master of Science in human resource development and a Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences in public relations from The University of Texas at Tyler.
Sharman also has a longstanding personal connection to KC, as her mother was a Kilgore College Rangerette.
She will spend the coming weeks assisting with transition activities as she prepares to assume her new leadership role.
