Radiologic Science

Associate of Applied Science Degree.

About Radiologic Science

Radiologic Science is both an art and a science. It is the largest of the allied health professions. Radiologic Technologists, also known as Radiographers and Medical Imaging Technologists, are trained in the specialized technical area of medical radiography. Radiologic Technologists use their skills and knowledge of human anatomy and physiology, X-ray equipment and physics of X-ray production to create diagnostic radiographic images in a wide variety of settings. The Radiologic Science program at Kilgore College prepares students to enter the profession of radiography through classroom, laboratory and clinical experiences. Two energized labs allow Radiologic Science students to simulate real life experiences on campus before entering the clinical environment. Students are prepared to assume a professional role in the field of Radiography upon successful program completion.

SHADOW HOURS INFORMATION

Shadow hours are valid for one year and do not need to be repeated if a student applies to the program within one year of completing those hours. Shadowing is capped at 40 hours, as the program awards application points based on the updated point system outlined on page 17 of the application packet, which lists 40 hours as the maximum. This limit has been established because clinical sites are currently accommodating both program students and shadow students and are becoming overwhelmed.

If a student completed shadow hours prior to Jan. 1, 2026, a shadow evaluation form is not required.

Students who complete shadow hours on or after Jan. 1, 2026, must submit documentation on official facility letterhead that includes the total number of hours completed, a signature verifying the hours, and the imaging modalities observed (if applicable). In addition, the technologist they shadowed or a supervisor must complete the shadow evaluation form located on pages 18 and 19 of the application packet. The completed evaluation may be placed in a sealed envelope and returned to the student to submit unopened, or it may be emailed directly to radscience@kilgore.edu.

Students may complete shadow hours at any facility that offers imaging services. Acceptable facility types are outlined in the application packet, and students may refer to it for clarification.

All applicants are strongly encouraged to read the application packet in its entirety for complete details and requirements.

applications are open now until March 31, 20026
