Graduates of the Diagnostic Medical Sonography program are prepared to work in a wide range of healthcare settings, including clinics, hospitals, physician offices, public health facilities, and laboratories. Duties include performing routine sonographic examinations of the abdomen, small parts, vascular system, and obstetrics and gynecology, as well as assisting physicians with invasive procedures.
Upon successful completion of the Sonography program, you’ll become eligible for the national American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) Sonography (S) certification examination.
Being eligible to sit for the ARRT exam is a major milestone for a sonography student because it allows graduates to become nationally certified, which is required or strongly preferred by most hospitals, clinics and imaging centers. It also gives employers confidence that a graduate is properly trained, making it easier to get hired and begin working in the field.

The DMS program is to prepare competent entry-level sonographers in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains for Abdominal Sonography- Extended and Obstetrics and Gynecology Sonography Concentrations.

Kilgore College is an open admissions college; however, acceptance into the Diagnostic Medical Sonography (DMS) program is limited and highly competitive. There is a limited number of applicants admitted to this program. To be considered for admission for the Fall Class (Cohort 2026), all required application material must be submitted by the deadline stated in this application. Students are accepted based on a structured criteria and point system. The point system will determine admission decisions.
