Velez sets school record with 10 three-pointers in win over Blinn

KILGORE, TX -- Richelle Velez set a Kilgore College school record by nailing 10 three-pointers Jan. 31 in a 75-62 victory over conference opponent Blinn College.

The most impressive part was that six of her three-pointers were made in the first period -- the other four were made in the third.

Velez broke her own school record of nine three-pointers she set last year in Lufkin versus Angelina College.

But Velez was hardly the only bright spot for KC.  Jade Thurmon scored 19 points for KC, adding nine rebounds, 12 assists, five steals and two blocks.

KC's Patience Odoko came off the bench and scored nine points.

Blinn had three players in double figures.  Ke'Asia earned a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.  Ryanna Carter and Alanna Spencer each scored 11 for the Lady Buccaneers.

The Lady Buccaneers drop to 9-13 overall and 3-9 in Region XIV play.

KC snaps a two-game losing streak (to No. 8 Trinity Valley and San Jacinto) to improve to 13-8 overall and 7-5 in conference action.

The Lady Rangers will travel Saturday, Feb. 3, to Beeville to play Coastal Bend College.
