Trinity Valley defeats Rangers in first regional tournament game

TYLER, TX -- The Trinity Valley Community College Cardinals held on to an early lead to defeat Kilgore College 5-1 in the first game of the Region XIV East Conference Tournament at UT Tyler.

TVCC scored first on an RBI groundout by Shelbie Fickling in the first inning, then scored again in the third on an RBI single.

KC got within a run, 2-1, with a home run by Hannah Grumbles in the top of the fifth inning, but the Cardinals scored three runs in the sixth inning to take the four-run lead.

Rosaury Perez was in the pitcher's circle for TVCC, surrendering one run on two hits over seven innings, striking out nine.

Jenna Lewis pitched six innings for KC, allowing five runs on nine hits, striking out four.

Grumbles was 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the Rangers in hits.

Destiny Torres, Kimane Rogron and Perez all managed multiple hits for TVCC.

KC will play Navarro next in the regional tournament. First pitch is set for noon Saturday, May 15, back at UT Tyler.
