MOUNT PLEASANT, TX -- The Kilgore College softball team got two conference victories in Mount Pleasant with a double-header sweep of the Northeast Texas Community College Eagles.
KC 6, NTCC 2
Pitcher Jenna Lewis struck out 10 batters in a KC victory against NTCC in the second game of the conference double-header.
Northeast Texas Community College got on the scoreboard first from an error, but KC answered in the fourth inning with three runs.
In the third, Makayla Trevino singled to drive in a run and Dajah Montgomery had a sacrifice fly to take the 2-1 lead.
Hannah Grumbles finished the scoring in the inning with a line drive home run over left field to take a 3-1 lead.
KC scored again in the fifth inning when Trevino reached on an error, scoring Marissa Medina.
NTCC answered in the bottom of the fifth with an RBI single to get within two runs, 4-2.
KC put the game away with two runs in the top of the seventh with a home run by Medina and an RBI single by Madalyn Brewer.
Jenna Lewis earned the victory for KC, striking out 10, and only allowing six hits and two runs over seven innings.
KC racked up seven hits with Trevino and Brewer each with two hits.
KC 11, NTCC 5
Makayla Trevino drove in four runs on three hits to lead KC to victory over NTCC, 11-5.
Trevino drove in runs on a single in the first, a single in the fourth and a triple in the seventh.
KC scored first with an RBI single by Makayla Trevino on a 2-2 count, scoring Marissa Medina.
The Rangers scored again in the second inning with a two-run double by Medina, scoring Dajah Montgomery and Madalyn Brewer.
The Eagles responded with four runs in the third inning, led by Haylee Wilson and Tasha Pierce, both sending runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning.
KC took the lead for good with seven runs in the fourth inning.
Caison Nachtigall drew a walk, scoring one run, Trevino singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs, Remington Denman homered on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring three runs, and Montgomery singled on a 2-2 count, scoring one run.
The Rangers scored a final run in the top of the seventh with an RBI triple by Trevino, scoring Medina.
Medina earned the victory for KC, surrendering five runs on 10 hits over seven innings, striking out four.
Halea Wells started the game for NTCC, lasting three and a third innings, allowing seven hits and eight runs while striking out two. Emily Cole and Averie Ayers entered the game from the bullpen, throwing three innings and two-thirds of an inning, respectively.
Kilgore College Rangers collected 13 hits on the day with Trevino, Montgomery, Medina and Denman each collecting multiple hits.
Trevino led Kilgore College Rangers with three hits in four at bats.
