Six softball players named to All-Academic, All-Conference teams

Three Rangers represent Kilgore College on this year’s Region XIV Conference All-Academic Team, one player was named First Team All-Conference and two were named Second Team All-Conference.

Sophomores named to the All-Academic Team are Taylor Christopher (Garrison), Cailon Palmer (Kilgore) and Katy Worrell (Maud).

Christopher plans to pursue a degree in nursing at Stephen F. Austin State University and Palmer will pursue a nursing degree at The University of Texas at Arlington.

Worrell is still weighing her options to play softball at a four-year school.

Shelby Edwards (Georgetown) was named First Team All-Conference.  Edwards, who played first base and catcher for KC, batted .366 this season with five home runs, 12 doubles, 36 RBI and had a .434 on base percentage.

Edwards, who was also named Second Team All-Region, is still deciding where she will play next season.

Players named Second Team All-Conference are infielder Kourtlin Hunter (Gladewater) and freshman Hailey Nash (Corrigan).

Hunter batted .339, had six home runs, 11 doubles, 27 RBI and scored 27 runs.  She will continue her softball career at East Texas Baptist University in Marshall.

Nash had a .326 batting average with 22 RBI, five home runs and five stolen bases.
