LUFKIN, TX -- The Kilgore College Rangers hopes of a championship were stymied May 15 with a narrow 1-0 loss to San Jacinto College in the third round of the Region 14 Softball Tournament at Angelina College.
With the game scoreless going into the seventh inning, San Jacinto's Ashley Tran grounded into a fielder's choice that scored Ariana Saenz for the game's only run.
KC started off strong in the bottom of the seventh inning with a single by Andrea Decareu, but the game ended with a double play and a ground out by the next two batters.
Mattie McQuary pitched a gem of a game, allowing only four hits and recording four strikeouts.
KC actually had more hits (6) than San Jacinto (4), but none of the hits translated into runs for the Rangers.
Brooke Goynes, Lauren Corley and Decareau were all 2-for-3 at the plate.
KC finishes its season at 23-26 overall and 12-16 in conference play.
