Rangers upset No. 2 Navarro College, will play Trinity Valley for championship

JACKSONVILLE, TX -- The Kilgore College men quickly made up for two losses earlier in the season to Navarro College by upending the No. 2 seed Bulldogs, 77-62, in the semifinals of the Region XIV Basketball Tournament at John Alexander Gymnasium.

The Rangers played their best ball of the year, led by Da'Sean Nelson and KJ Jenkins.

Jenkins, who scored 24 points, started the tone of the ballgame with the first basket, getting fouled on made 3-pointer and connecting on the free throw.

Nelson scored 22 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to earn a double-double.

Dantwan Grimes was also in double figures for KC with 12 points.

Navarro had three players in double figures with Jules Moor (17), Jaylen Harrison (14) and Amol Mawein (13).

The Bulldogs finish their season at 16-6 while KC improves to 17-5.

KC advances to play Trinity Valley Community College in the Region XIV Championship set for 7 p.m. Saturday, April 10, back at John Alexander Gymnasium.
