MOUNT PLEASANT, TX -- The Kilgore College Ranger softball team swept Northeast Texas Community College in a key conference doubleheader April 4, improving its conference record to 7-7 (14-16 overall).
Kilgore will host Tyler at 1 and 3 p.m. Saturday, April 7, at The Ballpark at KC Commons.
KC 4, NTCC 3
Northeast Texas Community College rallied in the fifth inning after Kilgore College built a 4-0 lead, but KC held on for a 4-3 victory.
NTCC scored three runs in the failed fifth inning comeback with two singles and a groundout, but couldn't quite catch up.
Katy Worrell closed the game out allowing only six hits and three runs, striking out five with no walks.
Kelsey Ahart and Hailey Nash both homered for Kilgore. Shelby Edwards singled and drove in two runs.
Shelby Edwards, Kaitlin Hunter, Alyssa Maldonado, Hailey Nash, Kelsey Ahart and Tori Tovar had one hit each.
KC 5, NTCC 2
Kilgore College nabbed the lead late in the game in a 5-2 victory April 4 over Northeast Texas Community College.
Tied at two with KC batting in the top of the fifth inning, Taylor Christopher singled on the first pitch, scoring two runs.
Devyn Power earned the win for KC, allowing five hits and two runs over seven innings. She struck out two and had no walks.
KC had nine hits with Tori Tovar, Shelby Edwards and Kourtlin Hunter all collecting multiple hits for the Rangers.
Kaitlin Hunter made the most plays in the field with eight.
