Rangers improve to 3-0 with win over Southeast Prep, 52-15

The No. 14-ranked Kilgore College Rangers improved to 3-0 on the season with a 52-15 victory over the Southeast Prep Spartans Sept. 13 at R.E. St. John Memorial Stadium in Kilgore.

The Spartans got on the board first with a 70-yard drive resulting in a touchdown, but KC would score the next 38 points.

KC running back Eddie Smith scored first on a rushing touchdown followed by a 10-yard touchdown run by Corey Davis with 2:16 left in the first quarter.

After holding the Spartans to three-and-out, KC's Patrick "Monster" Brown ran back a 67-yard punt return for a touchdown to put the Rangers up 21-7.

KC kicker Luis Sanchez added a 34-yard field goal in the first quarter to make the score 24-7.  KC quarterback Javelle Allen threw two touchdown passes in the first half, one to Joe Lewis and the second a 26-yard toss to Chris Chumley to make the halftime score 38-7.

The Rangers' defense had three interceptions in the first half by Kevin Wharry, Jerrell Sykes and JaMarcus Rhodes.

Early in the third quarter, a bad snap by KC resulted in a Spartan safety to make the score 38-9. 

Nick Fisher caught the fourth interception of the game for KC with 10:52 left in the third quarter.  The Rangers scored twice more, once a rushing touchdown by Smith and another by Davis.

Quarterbacks Averion Hurts and Javelle Allen combined for 262 yards passing with a touchdown pass each.

The Rangers open up conference play next Saturday, Sept. 20, on the road against Trinity Valley Community College.

Davis, Smith, Patrick Brown and Keevon Aldridge combined for 217 yards rushing in the contest.
