Rangers handily defeat Arkansas Baptist College, 54-14

KILGORE, TX -- The Rangers put numbers on the scoreboard early and often against Arkansas Baptist College in Kilgore College's season opener Aug. 29.

KC's Garrett Barton got the momentum going early with a 51-yard run on the Rangers' first play from scrimmage.  Two plays later, KC scored on a short run.

On ABC's next drive, the Buffaloes were forced to punt. That punt was blocked by Barton, recovered and returned two yards for a second KC touchdown.

KC scored the next 31 points unanswered.  The next Ranger score was a 10-yard pass from QB Cameron Martin to Barton to put KC up 21-0 at the end of the first quarter.

Early in the second quarter, KC's Tristan Thompson picked off an ABC pass.  KC kicker Troy Duran then nailed a 50-yard field goal to put KC up 24-0.

KC running back Martinez Syria had a huge game for the Rangers, rushing for well over 100 yards including a 50-yard touchdown run late in the second quarter.

Markell Sprigler punched the ball in one more time before halftime to make the halftime score 38-0.

Early in the third quarter, KC's Jarrell Sykes intercepted a Buffalo pass to set up a KC drive that ended in a four-yard TD run by Syria to put KC up 45-0 with 9:39 left in the third quarter.

The KC defense picked off another ABC pass with just over nine minutes left in the third quarter with an interception by Dante Lovilotte.

ABC finally scored with 8:18 left in the game.  KC answered with a 39-yard Duran field goal to make the score 48-7 with 5:15 left in the third quarter.

ABC scored again on the next drive to end the third quarter with a 48-14 score.

KC put up one final touchdown with Jarell Sykes blocking an ABC punt attempt and recovering the blocked kick 70 yards for a Ranger TD.

KC will host Georgia Military College Saturday, Sept. 5.  Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
