More than 400 dancers perform with 'Rettes

More than 400 high school and middle school dancers performed alongside the Kilgore College Rangerettes at halftime of KC’s football game vs. New Mexico Military Sept. 8 at R.E. St. John Memorial Stadium in Kilgore.

Proceeds from the halftime event, hosted by Coast2Coast Productions, benefitted the Rangerettes.

Coast2Coast Productions is owned by Angela Aulds, KC dance instructor, and Megan DeHoyos, Rangerette Showcase and Museum coordinator.

"As Kilgore College alumni, we are thrilled to bring potential students to Kilgore College for this event,” Aulds said. “Our love for Kilgore College and the Rangerette organization is something that we intend to share with these young adults for years to come."

During the day, the area dancers met the Rangerettes, toured the Kilgore campus, took a master dance class with Shelley Wayne (assistant director of the Rangerettes) and visited the Rangerette Showcase and Museum.

The dancers also met Jackie Johnson Ray who was the model for the original “K-Girl” logo that the Rangerettes still use today.

In September of 1966, Miss Gussie Nell Davis (Rangerette founder and first director) used Jackie Johnson as a model for a Dallas artist who drew the logo for the Rangerettes.

Johnson Ray, a member of the 26th Line, became the face of the Rangerettes and is immortalized in the logo known as the “K-Girl” because of her K-like pose.
