JACKSONVILLE, TX -- Kilgore College's Lyrik Williams and Richelle Velez just won't let the Lady Rangers lose.
After upsetting the Panola College Fillies with a 77-74 quarterfinal win, KC did the same March 10 as they shocked No. 20 nationally ranked San Jacinto College in the Region XIV semifinals in overtime, 64-56.
Williams hit a close-range shot with 9 seconds left in regulation to tie the game up at 51 to force overtime.
San Jacinto was the No. 2 seed in the tournament and ends its season at 21-7 with the loss.
Velez was 6-of-12 from the three point line, scoring 22 points. Williams scored 17 in the victory, earning a double-double by adding 10 rebounds.
KC's Danielle Meador and Da'Jah Thompson both had a monster game on the boards with 11 and 10 rebounds, respectively. Meador added 9 points in the win.
Mariana Witt also added 7 rebounds and 4 points for KC while Jade Thurmon had 4 rebounds and 3 points.
The Lady Rangers held San Jacinto to 25 percent of made field goals. KC was 37 percent from the field.
San Jacinto had three players in double figures with Ariona Gill leading the way with 20 points. Eryka Sidney scored 11 points for the Fillies and Jasmine James scored 10.
No. 6 seed KC improves to 21-10 and will face Trinity Valley Community College 5:30 p.m. Saturday, March 11, for the Region XIV championship and a bid to the national tournament later this month in Lubbock.
Saturday''s championship game versus TVCC will be broadcast live on the KC Sports Network beginning at 5:20 p.m.
