Lady Rangers run past Baton Rouge CC, 75-41

KILGORE, TX -- Lady Ranger freshman Richelle Velez exploded in the first quarter with five three pointers to propel Kilgore College to a lop-sided victory Nov. 8 over the Baton Rouge Community College Bears, 75-41.

Velez had 19 points (six three-pointers) in the first period and finished the game as the leading scorer with 25 points (7-of-17 from behind the three-point line), two seals, one assist and one rebound.

KC freshman Jade Thurmon came off the bench to also score in double figures with 18 points.  Thurmon also had 5 rebounds and 5 assists.

Freshman Danielle Meador had a good game on the boards, grabbing 9 rebounds for KC.

For BRCC, Pearl Jones and Oterica Witherspoon were both in double figures with 15 and 14 points, respectively.  Jones earned a double-double adding 14 rebounds.

With the win, the Lady Rangers improve to 3-0 on the season and will travel to play 3 p.m. Friday and 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11-12, in the Tyler Classic at Tyler Junior College’s Wagstaff Gymnasium.

The first game is against Ranger College and the second game is a rematch with Arkansas Baptist College.
