KILGORE, TX -- The Lady Rangers put up good numbers in the second half, but couldn't overcome a 22-point halftime deficit, losing to the Tyler Junior College Lady Apaches, 85-50, in a conference matchup Jan. 31.
Both teams shot almost identical field goal percentages (TJC was 36.3 percent and KC was 36.4 percent) but TJC's fast tempo was too much for a Lady Rangers team that has been hit by injuries and lacks depth from the bench.
TJC's up-tempo offense was effective, with the Lady Apaches putting up 36 more shots than the Lady Rangers (55 for KC and 91 for TJC).
The Lady Rangers also struggled with turnovers, turning the ball over 27 times to the Apaches in the contest.
Tyler's Brittny Norris led all scorers with 20 points. Taudenciah Oluoch and Jasmine Prophet were also in double figures for TJC, scoring 18 and 11 points, respectively.
KC's leading scorer was Imaobong Akpan with 19 points as the only Lady Ranger in double figures.
With the loss, KC drops to 6-14 overall and 3-10 in Region XIV play.
The Lady Rangers are off Wednesday, but will play Trinity Valley Community College Saturday, Feb.7, in Kilgore. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m.
