Lady Rangers knock off No. 8 Tyler Junior College, 72-65

KILGORE, TX -- The Kilgore College Lady Rangers, for the second time in a week, knocked off a nationally ranked opponent -- this time defeating No. 8 Tyler Junior College, 72-65, in Masters Gymnasium Feb. 23.

KC (19-8, 11-5) defeated No. 2 Trinity Valley Community College, 84-81, last Saturday.

In a neck-and-neck matchup with 15 lead changes, KC's Emely Rosario was clutch in the waning minutes by making 6-of-7 free throws to preserve a Lady Ranger lead. 

Rosario led all scorers with 22 points and was 10-of-11 from the free throw line.

Sarah Mgbeike scored six points and grabbed 18 rebounds for the Lady Rangers.  She also had 18 rebounds in the victory last week against TVCC.

KC's De'Jah Williford Kelley and Ireneshia Johnson came off the bench to score 13 and 11 points, respectively.

Johnson was 3-of-4 from the three-point line.

Alex Popham scored eight points and Riggs, Patience Idoko and Mgbeike each scored six points for KC.

TJC was led in scoring by Te'Aire Hambrick with 17 points.  Felmas Koranga earned a double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds.

Kierra Brimzy was also in double figures for the Lady Apaches with 10 points.

Tyler (24-4, 14-2) came into the contest in first place in Region XIV.

The Lady Rangers will travel Wednesday, Feb. 27, to Bossier City (La.) to play the Bossier Parish Community College Lady Cavaliers.

Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m. at the Coach Billy Montgomery Gym.
