Lady Rangers improve to 3-0 in conference play with win over Coastal Bend

KILGORE, TX -- The Lady Rangers looked a bit sloppy and lethargic at times, but they held on Dec. 2 to defeat Coastal Bend College, 83-71, to improve to 3-0 in Region XIV play.

CBC slowly chipped away at a 26-point KC lead in the second half thanks to 17 Lady Ranger turnovers.

The Lady Rangers had four players in double figures and made 42 percent of its shots.  Richelle Velez as the leading scorer with 17 points.

Jade Thurmon, who played most of the game for KC, scored 16 points (6-of-12) and grabbed 6 rebounds.

Courtney Parramore and Alicia Mardis came off the bench to score 10 points each.  Mardis earned a double-double by adding 14 rebounds.

CBC was led by Darias Whittington and Samantha Atkinson-Roach who both scored 17 points and combined for 9 three-pointers (five for Whittington and four for Atkinson-Roach).

With the loss, CBC drops to 2-10 overall and 0-3 in conference play.

The Lady Rangers' next game is set for 5:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 8, at home versus Jacksonville College.
