Lady Rangers defeat No. 17 Panola College, 80-75

KILGORE, TX -- Kilgore College's Jade Thurmon put up 31 points for the Lady Rangers in a 80-75 upset of the No. 17-ranked team in the country, the Panola College Fillies.

With 1:40 left in the game, Alicia Mardis dished a nice pass for a layup by Hennesy Handy to tie the score at 70.

KC is now 18-9 overall and 12-6 in Region XIV play. .

After a Panola turnover, Thurmon was fouled and made one-of-two free throws to give KC a 71-70 lead.

Panola missed its shot at the opposite and Handy rebounded for KC and put up a contested layup with 44 seconds left to put the Lady Rangers up, 73-70.

The Fillies missed a three-pointer and Thurmon was fouled after rebounding the ball with 28 seconds left.

Thurmon hit one free throw to give KC a 74-70 advantage.  She missed the second free thow but Handy was fouled after rebounding the ball.

Handy made one-of-two free throws to give KC a 75-70 lead with 25 seconds left in the game.

With 3 seconds left in the game Panola (22-5, 14-4 Region XIV) was forced to foul and Tyra Cormier hit two key free throws to preserve the KC victory.

Velez ended up with 9 points, all of which were three-pointers.

Alicia Mardis earned a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.  Handy and Alexus Moore each scored 6 points.

Panola had four players in double figures with Dasha Eremeeva with 18 points, Patience Okpe with 14 points, Ekaterina Karchevskaya with 13 points and Stefany Lourenco with 11 points.

KC plays next 5 p.m. at home Wednesday, Feb. 28, versus Angelina College.
