Lady Rangers advance with win over Blinn College, 71-63

JACKSONVILLE, TX -- With four minutes left, Kilgore College's Richelle Velez decided it was time to permenently increase the Lady Rangers one-point lead over Blinn College in the Region XIV quarterfinals.

Once she made up her mind -- game over. Velez nailed four straight three-pointers in less than two minutes, sending the Rangers' crowd into a tizzy, and increasing KC's lead to 13 points.

Blinn (15-16) got to within one point with four minutes left after trailing the entire game.  That's when Velez took over.

She wasn't alone, though, with Jade Thurmon scoring 24 points with 7 assists, 8 rebounds, 7 steals and one block.

With the win the Lady Rangers (20-10) will advance to the Region XIV Tournament semifinals to face Trinity Valley Community College 3 p.m. Friday, March 9, back at Jacksonville's John Alexander Gymnasium.
