KC softball team shuts out Paris, has sole possession of second place

KILGORE, TX -- The Ranger softball team notched its second straight double-header sweep April 5 with two shutout victories over Paris Junior College.

In the first game, KC defeated the Dragons 3-0, earning pitcher Katy Worrell her 15th win of the season.

Worrell only allowed three hits through seven innings and struck out five batters.

KC's Shelby Edwards was 2-of-3 from the plate, with an RBIs on a single in the first inning and a double in the third inning.

Brianna Davis knocked in the third run of the game for the Rangers with a hard ground ball single in the sixth inning.

In the second game, KC won on the run-rule in the fifth inning, 9-0.  Pitcher Lashanda Jones earned her eighth victory on the season.

Jones only allowed four hits and struck out six Paris batters.

Edwards knocked in five runs for the Rangers, hitting two home runs -- a single shot to left field in the first inning and a grand slam to center field in the second inning.

The four additional RBI's for KC came from Hannah Carpenter, Manda Wilmoth, Amber Williams and Jo Rivera.

Kaitlyn Stebelton was 3-for-3 at the plate, scoring three runs.  Carpenter was 2-for-3, scoring two runs and Williams was 2-for-3, scoring a run.

KC is back in action Saturday, April 8, in Corsicana to face Navarro College at 1 and 3 p.m.

The Rangers have sole possession of second place behind Tyler Junior College in NJCAA Region XIV play with a 14-4 conference record.
