KC softball sweeps Hill College in home-opening double-header

KILGORE, TX -- Kilgore College took an early lead and never looked back in an 8-4 victory over Hill College to complete the home-opening sweep of the Hilltoppers.

Hill scored one run in the top of the first inning, but in the bottom half, the Rangers scored on a Hill College error and a three-run home run by Hannah Grumbles to take a 4-1 lead.

The Hilltoppers scored a run in the second inning on a passed ball, but KC took back a three-run lead in the fourth inning when Marissa Medina stole home.

Hill walked in a run in the fifth inning.  In the sixth inning, Kaylie Burdine hit an RBI double for the Hilltoppers on a line drive to center field.

In the eighth inning, Calleigh King reached bases on an error that scored Natalie Castillo and Grumbles to make the score 8-4

Macie McGibney led KC to victory on the mound lasting seven innings, allowing four runs on seven hits and striking out four.

Hannah Spring took the loss for the Hilltoppers, lasting five and two-thirds innings, allowing 12 hits and eight runs while striking out six.

Autumn Minyard threw one-third of an inning out of the bullpen.

KC racked up 12 hits on the day with Grumbles, Medina and Castillo each with multiple hits.

Grumbles led the Rangers with three hits in four at bats.

Hill College had seven hits in the game with Shelby Pelton and Lindsey Ratcliffe with mulltiple hits for Hill College.

Pelton was 3-for-3 at the plate to lead Hill College in hits.

KC won the first game of the double-header on a walk-off single by Brewer.
