Kilgore College was recently notified about its renewal for the Texas School Ready Comprehensive Lead Agent grant for 2017-2019.
The grant, which was also awarded to KC for the 2015-17 school years, is part of the Texas School Ready Project.
KC will partner with the Children’s Learning Institute at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) to implement the project.
Total value of the grant agreement for the entire period (Aug. 1, 2017 through July 31, 2019) will not exceed $499,620.
It will fund KC staff – one coordinator and two coaches – to directly partner with early childhood programs in East Texas, providing professional development, coaching, child progress monitoring and classroom curriculum and materials.
Currently, as a Lead Agent, KC serves 40 child care centers, 70 classrooms and one Head Start program in 10 counties.
These services and materials have been proven to have a positive impact on the instructional practices of early childhood teachers and the school readiness of the children in their classrooms.
TSR staff will host a webinar for Lead Agents at KC later in the summer to detail the TSR Comprehensive implementation model for 2017-2019, discuss Lead Agent leadership roles/responsibilities and outline expectations of the TSR Comprehensive.
