KILGORE, TX -- The Kilgore College men got back into the win column Jan. 18 with a victory over Panola College while the Lady Rangers dropped a conference matchup with No. 5 Tyler Junior College.
KC Men 87, Panola 73
Kilgore College lit up the scoreboard in the first half in a conference win against Panola College, 87-73, in a game where there was never much doubt as to who the winner would be.
Panola (15-5, 6-3) actually scored more points in the second half, but the Rangers' 41-24 lead at halftime was just too much to make up.
KC (16-3, 7-2 Region XIV) led by as many as 26 points in the second half before the Ponies chipped away at the lead.
KC was led in scoring by D'Rell Roberts and Michael Thomas, both scoring 18 points.
Tyron McMillian and Cameron Gooden were both in double figures as well with 16 and 14 points, respectively.
Rodrigue Andela recorded another double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
KC will face Bossier Parish Community College at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22, in Bossier City, La.
Lady Apaches 93, Lady Rangers 81
The Lady Rangers hung with the No. 5 Tyler Junior College Lady Apaches, but fell short of handing TJC its first conference loss, with a 93-81 loss.
KC (14-5, 3-4 Region XIV) struggled shooting the ball at times, making 36 percent of its shots (31-of-87).
The Lady Apaches (16-2, 6-0 Region XIV) had a better shooting percentage with 44 percent (32-of-73).
Ireneshia Johnson led KC in scoring with 24 points, grabbing an impressive 18 rebounds. Sarah Matthews and Jada Hood were also in double figures with 22 and 16 points, respectively.
TJC's Felmas Koranga led all scorers with 30 points.
The Lady Rangers will face Bossier Parish Community College at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22, in Bossier City, La.
