KC men put up big numbers in victory against rival TJC

KILGORE, TX -- After more than two weeks off due to COVID-19 safety measures and a rare Texas snow storm, the Kilgore College men's team put together an impressive outing Wednesday, routing conference rival Tyler Junior College, 84-65.

The Rangers (5-2 Region XIV) had five players in double figures with KJ Jenkins as the team's leading scorer with 18 points including four three-pointers (4-of-8) and seven rebounds.

With a 41-27 halftime lead, KC kept the defensive pressure on the Apaches in the second half, building a 61-36 lead with 10 minutes left in the game.

Paul Otieno and Da'Sean Nelson each scored 16 points, Dantwan Grimes scored 13 and Tysen Banks came off the bench to chip in 11.

Dylan Cabs was big on the boards, grabbing nine rebounds.

TJC (4-4 Region XIV) was led in scoring by Jestin Porter with 31 points.

Scott Turner was also in double figures for the Apaches with 11 points, and Isaac Aguiar scored seven points, grabbing 10 rebounds.

The Rangers play at home again Saturday, Feb. 27, facing Trinity Valley at 4 p.m.
