TYLER -- The Kilgore College men survived a strong offensive performance Nov. 4 by Brookhaven College, moving to 3-0 on the season with a 79-74 victory over the Bears at the Chris Booker Classic at Tyler Junior College.
Brookhaven only trailed KC by one point at halftime, 42-41, but the Rangers built a short-lived 16 point lead in the second half.
The Bears got to within one point with 23 seconds left, 74-75, when KC's Darrian Grays was fouled and hit both free throws to put KC up by three points, 77-74, with 18 seconds left.
Brookhaven missed a three-point shot with five seconds left in the game with KC's Lansana Nwosu grabbing a huge offensive rebound and drawing a foul.
Nwosu hit both free throws at the end of the game to make the final score 79-74.
KC was led in scoring by Chad Bowie with 17 points making 3-of-6 from the three-point line. Â Three other players for KC were in double figures with Daytone Jennings scoring 16 points, Samory Gueye scoring 12 and Grays scoring 11. Â Gueye earned a double-double by adding 11 rebounds.
Brookhaven was led in scoring by D'Andre Dudley who was 6-of-12 from the three point line, scoring 19 points.
KC's next game is 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 12, at home versus Lone Star College-Cy Fair.
