KC loses to Trinity Valley 52-35 on the road

The Kilgore College Rangers scored 21 points in the first quarter, leading the Trinity Valley Community College Cardinals 21-14 after the first period Sept. 20 at Bruce Field in Athens, but the No. 3-ranked Cardinals scored the next 38 points unanswered en route to a 52-35 TVCC victory.

The Rangers scored their second touchdown of the game on a 53-yard drive ending with a 6-yard pass from Averion Hurts to Patrick Brown after getting the ball back from an interception by J'Marcus Rhodes.

TVCC scored with 4:28 left in the first half with a 20-yard touchdown pass and kicked a short-distance field goal to put the Cardinals up 31-21 at intermission.

Despite the impressive first quarter, the Rangers struggled in the second and third quarters with no points to show against the highly ranked Cardinals.

KC never quit and scored twice more in the fourth period--both rushing touchdowns by quarterback Javelle Allen--but the Cardinals' potent offense prevented a KC comeback.

With the loss, KC is 3-1 overall and 0-1 in SWJCFC play.  The Cardinals improve to 4-0 overall and 4-0 in conference play.

The Rangers' next game is 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, at home versus Navarro College.
