ROSWELL, NM — The nine-hour bus ride home will be a spirited one after the Kilgore College Rangers knocked off the No. 11 nationally ranked New Mexico Military Institute Broncos, 28-16.
KC built a 14-10 halftime lead and added two scores in the third quarter to put the Rangers up 28-10.
Kilgore used a stout rushing attack, piling up 307 yards on the ground and 471 yards of total offense. Running back Marquis Broussard led KC in rushing with 159 yards rushing on 21 carries and two touchdowns.
Running back Byron Proctor also eclipsed the century mark with 109 yards rushing on 10 carries.
QB Chandler Eiland completed 12 passes for 164 yards and one touchdown. Eiland's top receiver was Jarod Wood who had 83 yards receiving and one touchdown.
Defensively, the Rangers benefitted from 5 interceptions, two by Will Smith and one each by Michael Jackson, Hasan Defense and Kerenza Credit.
KC's Troy Burnett led all tacklers with 13 solo tackles, 6 assists, 2 tackles-for-loss and two sacks.
With the win, the Rangers improve to 4-1 overall and 3-1 in conference play.
The Broncos lose their second-straight game and drop to 4-2 overall and 2-2 in SWJCFC play.
KC's next game is set for 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, at R.E. St. John Stadium versus Navarro College.
The game is part of Hall of Fame Weekend at KC.
