KC impressive in opening game of season with 45-7 win over ABC

Kilgore College quarterback Averion Hurts had an impressive outing Aug. 30 throwing four touchdown passes en route to KC's 45-7 victory over Arkansas Baptist College to open up the 2014 season.

Hurts was 7-of-11 passing for 153 yards and Javelle Allen was 4-of-6 for 27 yards and another score through the air.

Patrick Brown also got into the scoring column, returning a punt for a score.

KC receiver Michael Watson had four receptions for 107 yards and two touchdowns, while Eddie Smith carried six times for 110 yards to pace the rushing attack for KC.

Defensively, Kilgore held Arkansas Baptist to 104 total yards and came away with three fumbles.

KC scored first in the contest when KC forced ABC to punt and Brown ran it back 71-yards to pay dirt.

KC scored 21 points in the second quarter, all three coming on TD passes from Hurts — 10 yards to Brown, 21 yards to Corey Davis (6 catches, 30 yards) and 24 yards to Watson.

Allen got into the scoring act in the third quarter when he tossed a 7-yard scoring strike to Louis Daily.

After Arkansas Baptist scored its lone touchdown of the contest, KC answered with a 68-yard touchdown pass from Hurts to Watson and a 42-yard field goal by Luis Sanchez to make the final 45-7.

KC has nine returning offensive starters and seven defensive starters from last year's team, looking to improve on last year's 3-3 conference record.
