Texas Mutual, Mobbs honored at graduation

Kilgore College awarded 492 degrees and certificates to students at its annual spring graduation ceremonies May 11 in Dodson Auditorium on the Kilgore campus.

At the 6 p.m. ceremony, KC presented the Blue Ribbon Medal of Excellence for Student Success to Texas Mutual Insurance Co. and the Blue Ribbon Medal of Excellence for Alumni Success to local businessman Kenny Mobbs.

Texas Mutual, the state’s leading provider of workers’ compensation insurance, has donated $100,000 for 11 straight years to sustain the KC Risk Management Institute, marking $1.1 million in donations to the college.

Because of Texas Mutual’s generous donations, the Risk Management Institute at KC is able to offer free classes that train and educate local employers, employees and the general public about proper workplace safety practices.

Since the inception of the Risk Management Institute in 2008, employees from more than 800 companies have traveled to KC from 79 Texas counties to take advantage of these free courses.

Mobbs is a KC alumnus and a founding partner and president of K-K Mobbs Construction, Inc.  He also operates Mobbs Builders LLC, providing residential and commercial development and construction.

Known for serving the Kilgore and East Texas communities through his volunteer efforts, he generously gives physically and monetarily to promote a better community.

Mobbs is an avid supporter of KC, providing significant donations of labor and materials for the completion of The Ballpark at KC Commons, the construction of the football field house at R.E. St. John Memorial Stadium and several other projects on KC campuses.
