KILGORE, TX -- The Kilgore College Rangers earned a hard-fought -- and much-needed -- conference victory Jan. 8 over the San Jacinto College-Central Ravens, 78-67.
The Rangers extended their lead in the second half by as many as 15 points after leading 28-26 at halftime.
In a game with 67 free throw attempts between both teams, San Jacinto was forced to play the foul game in the final two minutes with KC hanging on to a solid 10-point lead.
KC sophomore guard Chad Bowie led the team with 18 points, making 15-of-16 free throws. Davon Newton and Demeire Brown each scored 15 and Daytone Jennings scored 11.
Newton was 3-of-4 from beyond the three-point line.
San Jacinto went flat after halftime, making only 23 percent of its shots in the second half (5-of-21).
The Ravens were led in scoring by Kabir Mohammed with 22 points, earning a double-double with 10 rebounds.
Kayne Henry came off of the bench for San Jacinto to score 11 points.
With the loss, San Jacinto drops to 1-4 in Region XIV play and 8-7 overall.
KC improves to 2-3 in conference play and 10-4 overall.
The Rangers will travel Wednesday, Jan. 10, to Beeville to face Coastal Bend College.
Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
