Gatton named Counselor of the Year by Piney Woods Counseling Association

Kilgore College’s director of counseling and testing, Pam Gatton, was presented with the Counselor of the Year award at the Piney Woods Counseling Association’s spring meeting Feb. 22 at UT Tyler.

She has served as President, President-Elect and Parliamentarian of the Piney Woods Counseling Association.

Gatton began working at KC in the fall of 1999 as a counselor with Disabilities Services and as Mental Health Counselor. She later moved from Disabilities Services to Academic Counselor and Mental Health Counselor.

She currently serves as KC’s Director of Counseling and Testing, a position she has held since 2009.

Piney Woods Counseling Association, a regional chapter of the Texas Counseling Association, is an organization of Licensed Professional Counselors, professional school counselors and other mental health professionals in the East Texas area.

The association provides support and education to counselors, as well as advocating for the value of mental health services in schools, agencies and private practice settings.
