Four KC students win UT Tyler scholarships at art symposium

Four Kilgore College art students won scholarships to UT Tyler’s College Art Symposium in February.

Each spring the symposium and competition is held by the UT Tyler Department of Art and Art History.

It is a juried exhibition with scholarship award opportunities and is a recruitment event for area community colleges.

This year the juried art competition had 35 student entries and about 80 pieces or art judged by UT Tyler art faculty.

There were 14 scholarships awarded at this year’s event.

The purpose of the symposium is to acquaint college art students with the department and program offerings, meet and talk with the art faculty and tour UT Tyler facilities.

Scholarship recipients, hometowns and scholarship amounts:

  • Joemanuel Carpio (from Corpus Christi, TX): $2,000
  • Katelyn Renee Web (from Kilgore, TX): $1,000
  • Rebekah Suzanne Ayres (from Longview, TX): $1,000
  • Jewel Annette Hart (from Hallsville, TX): $1,000
