Electric Power Technology information session set for Feb. 1

Kilgore College Electric Power Technology (KCEPT) program will hold a free information session for anyone interested in taking KCEPT classes beginning in April.

The information session is set for 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1, at the Whitten Applied Technology Building, Room 109, located at 1306 S. Henderson Blvd. on the Kilgore campus.

Representatives from the KCEPT program will be at the information sessions to field any questions potential students might have.

KCEPT features a structured curriculum beginning with basic electricity – covering everything surrounding the electric utility core business from generation, transmission and distribution.

It ends with specialized hands-on training with regulators and transformers.

Upon graduation, students are prepared to enter into the utility business with a sound foundation that can lead to a successful career as journeyman lineman.

Applications for the next KCEPT classes are due by Feb. 22.

Classes for the next program begin April 8 with graduation set for June 14.

With a large number of projected employee retirements within the next five to seven years, statewide electric distribution companies, municipalities and utility companies are expecting a large shortage of workers.

Graduates can earn starting salaries of $18-22 per hour.
