Kilgore College will offer free advanced welding training beginning this month for displaced workers or individuals wanting to improve their current welding skills.
Classes offered include advanced pipe welding, advanced structural steel, advanced pipefitting and pressure vessel layout.
For free tuition, applicants must meet certain qualifications through the KC Workforce Development department.
Qualified applicants can take the classes free of charge thanks to a $500,000 grant by the Texas Workforce Commission Investment Council’s Wagner-Peyser 7(b) Grant Program.
To qualify for the tuition-free courses, individuals must be “displaced” in that they’ve been laid off because their employer closed a plant or division; moved or abolished their position; or simply had insufficient work for them; as well as some service members who leave the military.
Day classes are underway, held Mondays through Fridays, with flexible schedules available.
Evening classes begin Oct. 15 with seats available on Mondays evenings, Tuesday evenings and Thursday evenings. Evening classes are scheduled on an as-needed basis.
Weekend classes begin Oct. 20 and are held on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon.
Classes will be held at KC’s Advanced Welding Academy, located at 4005 FM 349 in Kilgore.
For more information on the classes call Brenda Brown at 903-983-8288 or Martha Woodruff at 903-983-8287.
