Coaches' poll released at annual Region XIV Media Day

Athens, Texas – Men's and women's basketball coaches for Region XIV met Oct. 14 at Trinity Valley Community College for the annual media day.

A preseason poll of the 14 men’s junior college basketball coaches of Region XIV has Trinity Valley Community College as the favorite to win the north zone and San Jacinto College to win the south zone.

Trinity Valley received 12 first-place votes to one for Tyler Junior College and one for Paris Junior College, while San Jacinto received 9 first-place votes to 5 for Lee College.

Meanwhile, coaches of the conference’s 11 women’s teams unanimously chose TVCC to repeat as champion.

Each first-place vote among the men was worth 7 points, each second-place vote 6 points, etc., on down to 1 point for a predicted seventh-place finish. 

Among the women, each vote was worth 11 points for first place, 10 points for second, etc.

Predicted order of finish, with first-place votes in parentheses:

  • MEN (North Zone) – 1, Trinity Valley (12) 95 points. 2, Tyler (1) 75 points. 3, Kilgore 61 points. 4, Navarro 58 points. 5, Paris 41 points. 6, Panola 37 points. 7, Bossier Parish 14 points.
  • MEN (South Zone) – 1, San Jacinto (9) 89 points. 2, Lee (5) 76 points. 3, Blinn 63 points. 4, Angelina 60 points. 5, Lamar State-Port Arthur 49 points. 6, Jacksonville 29 points. 7, Coastal Bend 17 points.
  • WOMEN – 1, Trinity Valley (11) 121 points. 2, Tyler 104 points. 3, Blinn 94 points. 4, Angelina 93 points. 5, San Jacinto 76 points. 6, Panola 54 points. 7, Bossier Parish 54 points. 8, Jacksonville 44 points. 9, Paris 36 points. 10, Kilgore 34 points. 11, Coastal Bend 15 points.
