KILGORE, TX -- The Lady Rangers made up a 10-point halftime deficit and briefly took the lead in the second half, but Kilgore College's momentum was short-lived, losing to Blinn College, 80-68.
With Blinn ahead by four points at the end of the third quarter, the Lady Buccaneers managed to outscore KC, 20-12, in the final stanza.
KC (17-6, 6-5 Region XIV) tied the game up at 62 apiece with 6:30 left in the game, but on the next possession, Blinn's Gabriela Bosquez banked in a three-pointer to put the Lady Bucs ahead.
With 5:30 left in the game, Ireneshia Johnson grabbed a rebound and put it back in for a basket to get within a point, 65-64, but that's as close at the Lady Rangers would get.
On the next possession, Blinn (19-4, 8-4 Region XIV) missed a three-pointer then KC was called for an offensive foul to give the ball back to the Lady Bucs.
Blinn capitalized on the turnover with a layup to make the score 68-64 with 4:05 left.
After a missed shot by the Lady Rangers, Blinn's Kristine Ezimako nailed a three-pointer and was fouled, giving Blinn the momentum it needed. She missed the free throw, but the ball was rebounded for a putback by Blinn to make the score 73-64.
Johnson made the next two field goals for KC, but with 35 seconds left in the game, it was just too late, and KC was forced to foul.
Leading all scorers was Johnson with 27 points, managing a double-double with 13 rebounds.
Jada Hood scored 26 points for KC while Tara Kessner scored four points and grabbed 12 rebounds.
Rounding out the scoring for KC was Sarah Matthews with six points (five rebounds), Trynadee Greenwell with three points (three rebounds) and Alba Garcia Carmarena with two points (6 rebounds).
Blinn had three players in double figures with Ezimako scoring 21 points (13 rebounds), Bosquez scoring 18 points (nine rebounds) and Hailey Atwood scoring 17 points (five rebounds).
The Lady Rangers travel Saturday, Feb. 8, to Carthage to play Panola College. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m.
