Barber program will begin soon at KC-Longview

Kilgore College will start a program, tentatively set for fall of 2019, for students interested in becoming a licensed barber.

Classes will be held at KC-Longview, meeting Mondays through Thursdays from 5 to 9 p.m., and every other Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Graduates of the program will complete the 1,500 hours required to take the state licensure examination to earn certification as a Class A Barber.

Total tuition and fees for the program will be $4,915.  Textbooks, uniforms, barber tools and supplies will cost approximately $855.

In addition, a barber “crossover curriculum” will be offered for individuals with a cosmetology license who wish to earn a barber license.  Two additional courses from the program will give students the 300 hours required for the crossover.

Tuition for the crossover course will be approximately $1,126.  Crossover cosmetology-to-barber students will also need to purchase textbooks and supplies.

Classes in the program are classified as continuing education courses and do not qualify for financial aid; however, scholarships are available.

The barber program will also open its doors to the public for reduced-price haircuts and shaves.

In addition, first-responders and veterans will be given appreciation cards for $3 haircuts/shaves.
